Built in the 15th century by Rana Kumbha of Sisodia Dynasty Kumbhalgarh massive and majestic fortress is an architectural masterpiece one of its kind. It is constructed on a hill top 1,100 m (3,600 ft) above sea level on the Aravalli range and its perimeter about 36 km offering it to be second longest wall in the world.
The premises of fort has 360 temples, gardens, step wells “baoris”, rooms with “jharokhas” with views to die. The destination of the fort is Badal Mahal which is the peak point and offers an amazing, grand and natural view of Aravali range, Mewar and Marwar Area with a beautiful sunset view. The architecture of the fort is really remarkable and the walk around it takes you back in time to the royal era gone by. The fort also houses some of the palaces which are simply magnificent.
Kumbhalgarh at night turns out be gold masterpiece, the flood lights offers star struck view of the fortress. Every evening daily at 7 pm a light and sound show is run by RTDC which is worth watching. The show consists of illuminating every historic related point of Kumbhalgarh with narration and sounds.
Not only a historical place it is also a top listed adventure tourism spot. Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary ranging from 500 to 1300 meters is a bird watchers paradise. It is home for large variety of wild life, some of which are highly endangered species. The wild life includes wolf, leopards, sloth bear, hyena, jackal, jungle cat, sambhar, nilgai, chausingha (the four horned antelope), chinkara and hare.
By Air - The nearest airport from Kumbhalgarh is Udaipur. This is an important domestic airport, which is serviced by regular flights from several airlines from cities like: Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai.
By Road - Kumbhalgarh is connected to Udaipur (84kms) by road. Udaipur in turn is linked to the major cities in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
